About
Robin Montgomery Garden Design & Development evolved
from a gardening business I established in 1997 after studying
horticulture at Lackham College, Wiltshire. During 2002-03
I successfully completed a garden design course under the
auspices of internationally respected landscape architect
John Brookes, at East Lambrook Manor, Somerset and launched
a design and build service.
I have worked for a growing list of private clients in
the south of England from London to Poole, Romney Marsh
to Bristol, and have also had a close association with the
development and management of historic gardens in the city
of Bath, near to which I live; among them are the Holburne
Museum, William Herschel House Museum and Beckford's Tower.
It goes without saying that I love growing plants, whether
ornamental or edible, and gain a huge amount of satisfaction
and excitement in seeing gardens grow and develop and their
owners enjoying them.
Good gardens rarely happen by accident, however, and neither
are they simply a collection of well chosen plants. In well
designed gardens, consideration of space and proportion
and locality will almost always have come before choice
of plants. As has been said so often, plants are the ornament
and embroidery that clothe a well-thought out structure.
