Developing a Six-acre Garden
A New Border
South-facing and too hot to sit in by day in the summer,
this high-walled courtyard painted a Mediterranean blue
by a previous owner had an almost prison-like feeling like
that of a changing room of an outdoor swimming pool. Intending
to sell, the client wanted the garden to reflect the same
high standard of re-fit that had taken place indoors. The
walls were repainted, raised beds heightened to accommodate
a number of climbing plants to grow on beamed supports offset
against the angle of the courtyard and serving to give shade,
break up the "blockyness" of the space and bring
down the height of the walls... a quick and successful sale
was achieved.
